Mullins patient on Bachasson plans
Willie Mullins insists he is in no rush to decide whether a trip to Cheltenham will be part of Bachasson’s plans.
The 10-year-old made it three wins from as many outings this season as he made all on his way to victory in Sunday’s Limestone Lad Hurdle at Naas.
Mullins’ willingness to not to settle on a single discipline for Bachasson has seen him go over both hurdles and jumps and his versatility shone through in a recent chase win at Clonmel, before a hurdles success at Punchestown.
Sunday’s victory was over a slightly shorter than usual two-mile trip but he was guided home expertly by Paul Townend and he has subsequently been cut by the bookmakers for the Stayers’ Hurdle.
The Closutton-supremo is in no rush to commit though, with a trip to Gowran Park on February 20 his likely next port of call. However, he admits he could still be be aimed at a Festival run, having finished sixth in last year’s Coral Cup.
“He’s enjoying himself,” Mullins said, as quoted by Sky Sports. “I thought it was a big ask bringing him back to two miles, but my backroom team overruled me and said he must go here. It’s one up for them!
“We’ll be looking at the Red Mills day at Gowran, and he’ll probably get an entry in both the hurdle and the chase.
“If we can keep him in that sort of form, who knows what will happen?”
