Trainer Sandy Thomson is pondering Seeyouatmidnight’s next move following the veteran’s impressive victory at Sandown on Saturday.
Just a day after turning 13, the once retired Seeyouatmidnight claimed a heart-warming victory in this weekend’s Unibet Veterans’ Handicap Chase under the stewardship of Grand National-winning jockey Ryan Mania.
In the immediate aftermath of that victory an excited Thomson claimed the Scottish Grand National could be the next port of call for Seeyouatmidnight, although the Lambden handler has now played down those suggestions as he weighs up his stable stalwart’s options.
“He’s a bit weary, but all good,” Thomson was quoted as saying by Racing TV. “We’ve had some fantastic days with him and Saturday was right up there.”
When asked about the Scottish Grand National, the trainer responded by saying: “It’s slightly complicated because we have one or two other horses who are perhaps pencilled in for that.
“Whilst it would be lovely to go to the Scottish National, it might be that Seeyouatmidnight goes somewhere else. We’ve got all these nice novices and I’d like to think one of them might prove really well-in in the Scottish National, so we’ll see.”
Seeyouatmidnight has certainly enjoyed a successful career with Thomson, claiming his first win for the trainer’s yard over seven years ago, while he has also enjoyed notable triumphs in the 2014 Rendlesham Hurdle and the Dipper Novices’ Chase in 2016.
