Moore issues backing to Goshen

Trainer says he thinks Goshen can return to form despite finishing last in the International Hurdle at on Saturday.

The four-year-old arrived into the race as hot-favourite as he sought to banish the demons of last year’s , where he unseated jockey Jamie Moore at the final hurdle in the Triumph Hurdle.

However, he ran the race very poorly and finished well behind the leading pack, with the race won by Song For Someone.

In the aftermath of the race, a fibrillating heart condition was discovered which would explain why he finished last.

Despite his form dipping dramatically in 2020, Moore is convinced Goshen will be back to his best for the Challenge Trophy in March and says his heart problem is not too serious.

“He’s absolutely fine. He ate up last night and has been out for an hour this morning – he seems quite happy,” Moore told TV’s Luck On Sunday programme.

“I’ll see how he is in the next few days and how this heart issue is, but we won’t write him off for the season, definitely not.

“He’s very special and has his own way of doing things.”
