I’m impressed with the standard of today’s cards, for a Monday they are very interesting. There are plenty of nice horses out and about and in my view not many as progressive as OSCAR ROBERTSON. Subscribers to the Racing Ahead magazine will have seen he is in my Ten to Follow this season and there was plenty of encouragement in his chase debut at Huntingdon.
Although beaten a long way into fourth, he showed up well for a long way jumping well in the process. He made just one mistake down the back at the worst time as the race was just developing, that put him on the back foot and he seemed to just take a blow after that. However, he stayed on very nicely and continued to jump well. I’m surprised he hasn’t been stepped up to three miles but the softer ground should play to his strengths and I will be disappointed if he can’t get his head in front today.
Hereford 2.45 – Oscar Robertson
