Trainer Clive Cox has confirmed Commonwealth Cup winner Golden Horde has been retired after suffering an injury.
The three-year-old won three races out of 10 career starts, with his biggest success coming in June at Royal Ascot.
Golden Horde beat Kimari and Ventura Rebel to land the Commonwealth Cup, while he also placed in the July Cup and Haydock Sprint Cup.
Cox’s charge was also a Group Two-winning juvenile in the Richmond Stakes and finished second in the Middle Park at Newmarket, but he has confirmed he will now move onto pastures new after a recent injury.
“He suffered a tendon issue that proved to be longer-term than first realised, so rather than miss a complete season it was with reluctance that it was decided to retire him to stud,” said Cox, in a statement to PA.
“He was the best horse owned so far by HH Sheikh Sultan Al Deen bin Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa, who has been deeply involved with all decisions regarding what is best for the horse.
“We had hoped to finish this season on a high in the Champions Sprint at Ascot last Saturday, but it wasn’t possible.”
Connections of Ghaiyyath, one of the highest-rated horses in the world, have also confirmed his retirement.
The five-year-old won four races this year, including three Group Ones in England. Ghaiyyath won the Coronation Cup at Newmarket, the Eclipse at Sandown and the Juddmonte International at York.
He was expected to run on British Champions Day, but connections have decided to retire him to stand at Kildangan Stud in Ireland.
