Punters named Oscar will appreciate this column today as I have coincidentally tipped two horses named Oscar. First up is OSCAR ROBERTSON at Huntingdon who I anticipate to be a lot better than a mark of 120 by the end of the season. Tom George‘s charge is a real chasing type and a good looking horse too. He caught my eye twice last year when he ran at Chepstow and Wetherby and showed enough ability in both those runs to suggest he is capable of winning off 120 today. I suspect he will take to chasing well and I think he could be progressive enough to line up in the Novices handicap chase, formerly a festival race, now ran at Sandown towards the end of the season.
Next up is OSCARS MOONSHINE at Hereford. Paul Nicholls wouldn’t have too many horses rated under 100 but this selection is currently rated 99. If all goes to plan, he won’t be for too much longer but in all seriousness he looks to have a serious chance today. He was a big eye catcher on debut in a good bumper before having a few educational runs and put away. The handicapper wanted to see one more from him and he ran a solid sixth at Newton Abbot over a trip too short. I doubt he would have been fully tuned up for that run and he should now be fighting fit ready to roll today.
Huntingdon 1.00 – Oscar Robertson – 1pt e/w
Hereford 1.15 – Oscars Moonshine – 2pt win
