Haydock Sprint Cup runner-up Glen Shiel is firmly on course for Saturday’s Champions Sprint at Ascot.
Hambleton Racing‘s son of Pivotal hasn’t finished out of the first two places since dropped to six furlongs, winning the Group 3 Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh prior to finishing runner-up on his Group 1 debut last time.
The tough and progressive six-year-old was bought for just £45,000 at last year’s Goffs UK Spring sale. One of the success stories of the 2020 Flat season, Glen Shiel is reported in great form at home by trainer Archie Watson “I’ve been delighted with Glen Shiel since Haydock. His work into Ascot has been very good and I hope he can run another huge race.”
Leading rider Hollie Doyle finished runner-up on her first domestic Group 1 ride aboard Glen Shiel at Haydock and will once again be in the saddle at Ascot.
Hambleton Racing’s Simon Turner reports excitement is high amongst Glen Shiel’s horse racing syndicate “Glen Shiel’s excellent run at Haydock didn’t surprise us at all and fully justified the decision to pitch him in against the best. His owners lived every moment of that run and are counting down the days to Saturday.”
