Conditions are going to be pretty testing
today up and down the country and it’s advisable that you look for soft ground
horses. My selections all love the softer surface and as I write this all are
double figure prices.
I’ve
gone for two in the big 7f handicap at Ascot and first up is the outsider REVICH who looked better than ever two
runs back at Chester when dominating a competitive handicap. That performance
really impressed me and I lost no faith in him after his 5th place finish last
time out. That was a muddling race and he still only finished just over a
length from the winner so I think he is more than capable of going close here
given he will handle the ground.
I
think GREENSIDE is overpriced at
12/1 and I’d say his trainer has saved him for this. He goes remarkably well
fresh and is very light raced for a horse of his age. At first glance he looks
exposed but recent performances suggest he could still have more in his locker,
especially on this ground. Marco Ghiani gets on very well with him and second
placed effort in this race last year bodes well.
Up at Redcar I’m
hoping today could be the day for two of my favourite horses. In the 4.35 MIKMAK lines up, on what is likely to
be heavy ground come the off, off a mark of 73 and I just can’t leave him
unbacked at 16/1. Tim Easterby’s horse loves the mud and has been waiting for
this sort of surface all season. He is 9lb below his last winning mark and
guaranteed to go on the surface so he rates a solid each way play today.
The other mudlark
I’ve plumped for today is OUR LITTLE
PONY who has hit the crossbar plenty of times this season already. None of
those efforts however, have come on her preferred softer surface. Finally, she
gets some proper soft ground here and her hold up tactics, which often causes
her backers so much pain, will stand her in good stead here as she will be
coming home at a fair rattle when, hopefully, her rivals will be paddling.
