The
final classic of the season is here and it looks set to be a belter. You could
make a case for the majority of the field and the top 3 would all individually
be clear favourite in an average year. Splitting them is very difficult and I
probably won’t go mad on this race but I feel like I should give an opinion.
Hukum
would probably prefer a little bit more ease in the ground after his facile
success last time so I think it’s between Pyledriver and SANTIAGO and I’m going for the Irish Derby winner who may have been
overlooked here. I love Pyledriver, he gave me one of my best days this year at
Ascot when hosing up there but there is a slight doubt over his stamina here
and the form of his last race might not be all that strong. My selection ran a
mighty race in the Goodwood Cup when things didn’t quite go his way and had
earlier won at the Royal meeting and at the Curragh. One thing he will do is
stay and with Frankie in the saddle he has the X-Factor for me. At 10/3 he’s
the bet for me.
My
only fancy today is LEGEND OF DUBAI who
may be very well treated off an opening mark of 83. Bred to be a lot better
than mark, Roger Varian’s colt has shown plenty of ability in both starts to
date. He and Andrea Atzeni have a great record on Town Moor and I think this
could be one to enhance that record today.
