Jockey Hollie Doyle is looking forward to breaking further ground when she competes in a British Group One for the first time this weekend.
The 23-year-old will partner Glen Shiel in Saturday’s Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock as she takes the next step in her fledgeling career.
Doyle has certainly enjoyed a remarkable rise over the last 18 months, as she set a new record for winners as a female jockey in 2019, totalling 116 successes.
Things have got even better for the Brit this year, following up a first victory at Royal Ascot in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes with a maiden Group-race win in the Princess of Wales’s Stakes at Newmarket.
Doyle has also competed in a Group One race in Germany, while she became the first female jockey to ride five winners in one day at Windsor last month.
Next on the agenda for Doyle is a maiden run in a British Group One this weekend where she will be bidding to become only the third female rider to win such a race, following in the footsteps of Alex Greaves and Hayley Turner.
It would certainly appear Doyle is full confidence ahead of Saturday’s showpiece, although she is certainly not getting too ahead of herself.
“It is great to pick up the ride. These opportunities are what I wish for, so I can’t complain,” Doyle said.
“I’ve had a few good Saturdays lately and it would be good to have another, but we will have to wait and see.”
