Goodwood Horse Racing Trends

1:50 – Ladbrokes Best Odds Guaranteed Fillies' Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-90) 1m4f ITV3

No previous runnings
Trainer has a 24% record with his 3 year-olds at the track
Trainer Hughie Morrisson is only 2 from 36 with his 4+ year-olds at the track

VERDICT: CD winner Alemogna can go well with Jim Crowley, who has a 22% record riding, booked to ride, while recent Windsor scorer Urban Artist has to be considered with jockey Oisin Murphy riding. However, that one is trained by the Hughie Morrison yard and they are only 2 from 36 with their 4+ year-olds at the track. Margaret Dumont and Point In Time are others in the race, but the call here is to side with the William Haggas entry – ICE SPRITE – this 3 year-old heads here having won its last two and is only 6lbs higher than last time. The Haggas team also have a decent 24% record with their 3 year-olds at the track. She's won on quick and soft ground too so that's fine and jockey Tom Marquand, who has won on her the last twice, remains in the saddle.

2:25 – Ladbrokes Giving Extra Places Every Day Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 6f ITV3

Only 2 previous runnings
No winning favourite
Both winners aged 4 or 5 years-old
Both winners carried between 9-5 and 9-6 in weight
Trainer Marcus Tregoning has a 22% record with his 3 year-olds at the track
Trainer David Menuisier has a 23% record with his 4+ year-olds at the track
Jockey Thomas has a 40% record riding 4+ year-olds at the track

RACING AHEAD VERDICT: Alaadel, Atalanta's Boy and Chairmanoftheboard are the three CD winners in the field so are respected based on that and of that trio a chance is taken on the David Menuisier runner – ATALANTA'S BOY. The yard boasts a decent 23% record with their older horses here and jockey Thomas Greatrex has a 40% strike-rate riding 4+ year-olds at the course too. The horse's last run can be ignored as he fluffed the start but prior to that had run top races to be second at Windsor and winning here back in June. Of the rest, the Mark Johnston runner – DESERT SAFARI – might have more to come as he's only a 3 year-old and has been freshened up with around 6 months off.

3:00 – Ladbrokes Get Your Daily Odds Boost Handicap Cl2 (3yo 0-100) 1m2f ITV3

8/8 – Ran in the last 6 weeks
7/8 – Didn't win last time out
7/8 – Won between 1-2 times before
6/8 – Winners from stall 6 or lower
5/8 – Carried 8-13 or less in weight
4/8 – Ran at Goodwood before
4/8 – Irish bred
3/8 – Winners from stall 1
2/8 – Trained by Amanda Perrett
2/8 – Ridden by Jim Crowley
1/8 – Winning favourite
The average winning SP in the last 8 running is 15/2
Jockey Jim Crowley has a 22% record riding 3 year-olds at the track

RACING AHEAD VERDICT: The in-form Rosa Gold will be popular after three wins – she's clearly a horse on the up and deserves to take her chance here but is up a massive 16lbs from her last run and also takes a bit jump up in grade. Jim Crowley often does well riding 3 year-olds at the track so his mount Al Madhar is interesting, while the Oisin Murphy-ridden Fiji should have a lot more to offer having run just three times. Overwrite and It's Good To Laugh would be interesting on their best form, but the call is to side with the Godolphin runner – NATIVE TRIBE. This 3 year-old ran well at Sandown (2nd) on his first run back after being gelded and looks the sort to have more to come. The first-time blinkers are also fitted, while the Charlie Appleby yard have an overall 24% record with their horses at the track.

3:35 – Ladbrokes Supreme Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 7f ITV3

10/10 – Had won over 7f before
9/10 – Ran in the last 6 weeks
9/10 – Returned 9/1 or shorter in the betting
8/10 – Aged between 3-5 years-old
8/10 – Won 3 or 4 times before
7/10 – Didn't win last time out
7/10 – Placed favourites
6/10 – Ran at the track before
3/10 – Trained by the Richard Hannon yard
2/10 – Ridden by Danny Tudhope
2/10 – Trained by David O'Meara
1/10 – Winning favourites
1/10 – Winners from stall 1
Average winning SP in the last 10 runnings 11/2

RACING AHEAD VERDICT: Only seven runners but a competitive little renewal of this. The David O'Meara yard have won two of the last five runnings and try to add to that with ESCOBAR (e/w), who is actually the top-rated in the field. This 6 year-old messed up the start last time at though so needs to bounce back from that, but prior to that race a cracker to be third to the useful Space Blues in the G2 – a repeat of that form would see him go close. Happy Power was a good winner at Salisbury last time out, while the Godolphin runner – D'bai – is closely-matched with the horse when the pair finished first and fourth at back in July. Course winner – Snazzy – is another that has form tied in with the likes of D'bai and Happy Power and should go well, but I'd just be worried all his wins have been over shorter – he's tried 7f and been beaten each time. CD winner Toro Strike can't be ruled out, but this is a big step up in class, so the other pick is the Richard Hannon runner – CLOAK OF SPIRITS. This 3 year-old hails from another yard – the Richard Hannon – team that do well here and has gone close at this level the last twice. Yes, he's a horse that has become a tad hard to win with (1 from 7), but the drop back to 7f looks a good move after getting a bit tired over 1m in recent races. Also, the horses first run at the track, but has handles the undulations of Epsom so there is a good chance he'll be fine here.

Perth Horse Racing Trends

2:05 – bet365 Novices' Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl3 (4yo+) 2m ITV3

No previous runnings
Trainer Brian Ellison has a 50% record with his chasers at the track
Trainer Nigel Hawke has a 30% record with his chasers at the track
Trainer Fergal O'Brien has a 25% record with his chasers at the track
Jockey Brian Hughes has a 22% record riding over fences at the track

RACING AHEAD VERDICT: Global Tour can go well for the in-form Fergal O'Brien yard, while expect to see the front-running GUARDIA TOP make a bold bid from the front – with only 10-1 to carry he could be dangerous too with the Nigel Hawke yard also having a decent 30% record at the track with their chasers. Scardura is another to note but the other call is SIANNES STAR. This 7 year-old hails from the Brian Ellison yard, that were amongst the winners in the week. They also boast a decent 50% record with their chasers at the track, while top jockey Brian Hughes, who has a 22% strike-rate riding over fences here too. The horse is also a course winner and wasn't disgraced last time when running fourth at in a good handicap hurdles race. Yes, this will be his first run over fences, but he jumps hurdles well enough and Brian Hughes will give him every assistance from the saddle.

2:40 – bet365 Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) Cl2 (3yo+) 2m4f ITV3

Trainer Neil Mulholland has a 35% record with his hurdlers at the track
Trainer Donald McCain has a 24% record with his hurdlers at the track
Trainer Keith Dalgleish has a 23% record with his hurdlers at the track
Trainer Fergal O'Brien has a 29% record with his hurdlers at the track
Jockey Charlotte Jones has a 33% record riding over hurdles at the track

RACING AHEAD VERDICT: Some good trainer stats with their runners over hurdles here at the track. The Mulholland yard boast a 35% record and run Bootlegger. The McCain camp have course winner Dear Sire, while Keith Dalgleish runs Newtown Boy. However, the pick is to stick with the Fergal O'Brien runner – IMPERIAL ELYSIAN. This 6 year-old heads here having won his last three and was impressive last time out at Southwell on his return run, when winning by 5 ½ lengths. He's up 11lbs so another step forward is needed but is the clear in-form horse in the race and is expected to make another bold bid.

3:15 – bet365 Sam Morshead Perth Gold Cup Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl2 (4yo+) 3m ITV3

10/10 – Ran in the last 6 weeks
9/10 – Returned 15/2 or shorter in the betting
9/10 – Aged 10 or younger
9/10 – Had won over 3m+ (fences) before
8/10 – Won between 1-4 times over fences
8/10 – Carried 11-1 or less in weight
8/10 – Irish bred
6/10 – Won last time out
5/10 – Had run at the track before
3/10 – Ran at Perth last time out (all won there)
2/10 – Trained by David Pipe
2/10 – Trained by Peter Bowen
2/10 – Ridden by
2/10 – Winning favourites
Trainer Peter Bowen has a 47% record with his chasers at the track
Trainer Jennie Candlish has a 33% record with his chasers at the track
Jockey Sean Quinlan has a 26% record riding over fences at the track

RACING AHEAD VERDICT: With the Peter Bowen and Jennie Candlish yards having decent 47% and 33% records at the track, of those at bigger prices – MORE BUCK'S (e/w) and RED GIANT (e/w) – might be worth small interests. The pair are also proven CD winners at the track and get in with light weights too. Amalfi Doug and Soupy Soups are two other CD winners here, while the Lucinda Russell pair of Boy's On Tour and Fortunes Hiding have won at the track in the past too and should be respected. It's a race thought that looks to revolve around the Nicky Richards-trained Imada and the Jonjo O'Neill entry – AS YOU LIKE. The former will have Brian Hughes riding and was an easy 15 length winner at last month. He's up 14lbs from that though and if the track gets any more rain that might be a negative with his better form coming on good-to-soft or quicker. On a plus, he's another course winner, but just feel this is a much harder race than the one he landed last time. As You Like was also a nice winner last time out – when scoring at Southwell around 6 weeks ago. He's up only 4lbs for that and with it coming off a 7-month break can be expected to have improved a lot for it as well. He's another that might not want any more rain but should be okay as ground conditions stand at the moment.
