Angus Gold is hoping Elarqam can get back on track in the Sky Bet York Stakes as he bids to become the first dual winner of the race on Saturday.
The five-year-old won the Group 2 contest in 2019 but hasn’t picked up a victory in the meantime with a second-place finish at Haydock his best performance.
He disappointed last time out in the Hardwicke Stakes at Ascot, finishing sixth, but racing manager Gold feels a return to York could bring the best out of Elarqam.
Gold said: “He won the race well last year, beating a decent horse [Addeybb], and then ran a very good race in the International when we thought he was unlucky.
“He seems to like York and hopefully we can get him back on track.”
The 1m 2f 56y contest has a hugely competitive seven-strong field with Aspetar and Telecaster expected to be in the mix alongside Elarqam.
