The Lir Jet heading to York

Trainer has confirmed stable star The Lir Jet will head to to compete in the Coolmore Nunthorpe next month.

The two-year-old lost his unbeaten record at Chantilly on Sunday, with Ventura Tormenta too strong for Bell's charge.

After an impressive performance at last month, he was purchased by leading owners Qatar .

He rewarded the team with a win at in the Norfolk Stakes, but were brought back down to earth last weekend.

Oisin Murphy was unable to get the 2/5 favourite over the line in first place, but Bell says a drop back to five furlongs is now the plan as he prepares to send his charge to York.

He told reporters: “He's back in the yard and seems none the worse for his exertions, thankfully.

“I've just been talking to Sheikh Fahad, and I think we're going to drop back to five furlongs for the Nunthorpe – that's the thinking at the moment.

“Oisin is pretty emphatic that he's better horse over five furlongs and the form book would suggest that, too.

“It's not set in stone, but Sheikh Fahad's view is you don't succeed if you don't try, which is a good attitude to have.”
