Johnston considers German Oaks for Rose of Kildare

Mark Johnston says Rose of Kildare could now run in the German after winning the Group Three Tattersalls Musidora Stakes at on .

Rose of Kildare had at just five days ago over a mile, but Johnston decided to take a risk with the Make Believe filly by running her in the rain in North Yorkshire.

Jockey Franny Norton placed his ride at the head of the field, and the pair did enough to fend off Albaflora and Ricetta.

Dubai Love made the first move along the Knavesmire, but Rose of Kildare powered home to win by two and a half lengths.

Johnston admits he may need to pay a hefty fee to get her in the German Oaks, but says it is a serious option before the end of the season.

He told ITV : “Absolutely fantastic. We ran her at Epsom last Saturday and then regretted it because it clearly looked like she wanted further and said ‘oh we should have saved her for the Musidora’ and then thought ‘what the hell? Let’s run her in the Musidora’.

“She ran in the Guineas, we took her to the German Guineas which had been her target all along, and she was very unlucky there, and one of the partners said afterwards ‘I wish we had her in the German Oaks’.

“We’ve looked at that. I think there is a 50,000 euro supplement, but we won’t rule it out because that’s the sort of thing she could win and, obviously, to get a Group One tag on her would be absolutely fantastic.”
