Qaader to head to Newmarket

Connections have confirmed that Coventry Stakes runner-up Qaader will run at Newmarket’s July Festival.

The two-year-old has caught the eye on his first two runs for Mark Johnston, with both of his appearances coming in June.

Qaader won at Newbury on June 12, before finishing second at Royal Ascot eight days later.

He may now step up to seven furlongs for the first time in his career with the Group Two bet365 Superlative Stakes at the Moet and Chandon Newmarket Festival on Johnston’s radar.

Qaader is also being considered for the Tattersalls July Stakes over six furlongs at the same meeting and Assistant trainer Charlie Johnston admits they will take their time before deciding which race suits him more.

He told reporters: “The July Festival is where you are likely to see Qaader next – although we are flexible as to which race we will run him in.

“We could go up to seven for the Superlative or stay at six for the July Stakes.

“He was still quite green in the race at Ascot and didn’t get beat through a lack of speed but through a lack of experience.

“We would have no problem taking on the Coventry winner again at some point because Qaader moved through the race like a very good horse.”
