Jockey Tom Marquand says he accepts the decision that will see Frankie Dettori ride English King in the Investec Derby.
Trainer Ed Walker has used Marquand for English King’s last two rides and the pair have won back-to-back races at Newcastle and Lingfield.
English King won in fine style at Lingfield on June 5 but Walker confirmed on Monday that Dettori has been booked to ride his stable star for the Investec Derby on July 4.
Instead of hitting out, Marquand says he wishes the team the best of luck for the big race.
He told reporters: “It is hard, not keeping a ride like that, but Bjorn (Nielsen, owner) has a great relationship with Frankie, and the horse is going in with as good a shout as you could possibly imagine. All you can do is respect the decisions of owners.
“It was all handled extremely well. They called me up, explained it to me and the reasons why.
“Hopefully I can ride Ed (Walker, trainer) and Bjorn a few more winners on other horses and all I can do is wish them the best of luck.”
