Headman lined up for Ascot trip

The -trained Headman could be sent to next week for a shot at the Prince of Wales's Stakes.

Headman picked up three victories in 2019, triumphing at , Saint-Cloud and Deauville before ending last season with a disappointing fifth in the Irish Champion Stakes at .

In fairness to Charlton's charge, that Irish excursion was his first top-level outing and are confident there will be better to come when he returns to the track this year.

After nearly three months off because of the coronavirus pandemic, the four-year-old could be set to make his first appearance of 2020 in next week's Prince of Wales's Stakes, which is run over a mile-and-a-quarter.

Speaking about Headman's plans, Teddy Grimthorpe, manager to owner Khalid Abdullah, said, as quoted by Racing Post: “We are looking at the Prince of Wales's Stakes as a potential option, but it has been hard to plan this season as the goal posts keep moving.

“He has had a good and has been working nicely. Everything has been straightforward and he appears in good shape. No firm decision has been made yet, but races like this will be on his agenda.”
