British racing could have a packed schedule for June if its given the go-ahead to return – with the 2000 and 1000 Guineas set for June 6 and 7.
The British Horseracing Authority were originally hoping to resume action in late May, only for the government's announcement earlier this week to quash that and make June 1 the earliest possible return date.
That left the BHA to revise its original provisional schedule, with racing officials now hoping that the first two Classics of the season can be run on the opening weekend in June, with Royal Ascot to follow later in the month (June 16-20).
It was revealed on Wednesday that Epsom has been given the go-ahead to host the Derby, which could be on July 4 – alongside the Oaks – with the Coral-Eclipse pencilled in for Sunday, July 5.
In a statement, the BHA said: “The aim remains to provide, as soon as possible, at least one Pattern or Listed opportunity covering the key distances for the different sections of the population for three-year-olds and up, with a suitable number of novice and conditions races for two-year-olds scheduled to ensure horses can have a chance to run prior to Royal Ascot.
“This provisional plan may need to be adjusted according to when and under what circumstances racing is safely able to recommence.”
