Jean-Claude Rouget has revealed Sottsass will be back at ParisLongchamp in a month’s time despite his disappointing result on Monday.
French racing returned on Monday for the first time since March and it was the Longchamp meeting that attracted the biggest interest, with several high-profile runners competing.
One of those was the Rouget-trained Sottsass, who enjoyed a solid 2019 campaign that saw him saw him win the French Derby and finish third to Waldgeist and Enable in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
However, the four-year-old failed to produce the goods on a day that saw many favourites falter, having to settle for a third-place finish behind impressive winner Shaman, who benefited from a superb front-running ride by Maxime Guyon.
Rouget, who earlier witnessed Helter Skelter fail to make an impact in the Prix de Fontainebleau, admits his stable wasn’t ready for the meet while also revealing future plans for Sottsass.
He told Equidia: “In view of how they have run today my horses are not yet ready. Sottsass will be back here in a month’s time for the Prix de Ganay.”
