Kenzai Warrior should be fit and ready for a crack at the 2000 Guineas, according to his trainer Roger Teal.
Owners and trainers are waiting to see when UK racing will be allowed to return following the lockdown, with the hope that both the 1000 and 2000 Guineas will be able to go ahead at the start of June.
Teal is preparing his charge as if the races will be run and after originally being keen to also target the Derby, the trainer is now fully focused on the Guineas – a race he finished second in two years ago, with Tip Two Win.
Kenzai Warrior has looked impressive to date, winning both of his races including on his last race – the Horris Hill Stakes at Newmarket in November, beating Ropey Guest by half-a-length on heavy going.
Speaking about the three-year-old, Teal told the Racing Post: “I think he'll stay and he might be better suited by middle-distances than a mile, he's a big galloping horse. He won the Horris Hill on testing ground and he showed he's got courage, he didn't really like the ground.”
The trainer is buoyed by the work done in the off-season, adding: “He's done very well through the winter and he could do with a race, he's very boisterous and full of himself. Things might come too close and it's more likely he'll go straight to the Guineas but with everything up in the air at the moment, no-one can really make a plan.”
