Hughes raring to go

Brian Hughes says he is already excited about riding over the Jumps again when the action hopefully returns in July.

The coronavirus pandemic has meant no since March 17 but plans are in place for an intended return for the Hunt scene in July.

Meanwhile, the British Authority are set to reveal on their intentions for the Flat, with it hoped that racing without obstacles could be back before the end of the month.

Champion jockey Hughes has found himself in a similar position to the rest of the population during the lockdown period but has recently been back out on the gallops.

The Cleveland-based star admits he is desperate to get back riding winners and is keeping everything crossed that racing's return following Covid-19 will be a safe one.

“I've obviously been in lockdown for six weeks and didn't leave the house,” Hughes told VBET.

“We live in the countryside, though, so it hasn't been too bad to keep busy. Over the last few weeks, I've also been able to get back riding out again.”

He added: “I'm really looking forward to July, when jumps racing will hopefully resume. It's been the longest break I've ever had in my career, but, obviously, there's greater things going on around the world. Hopefully everyone remains fit and healthy.”
