Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has given some hope that racing in Ireland might return later this month.
It has been claimed in recent weeks that racing will be one of the first sports to benefit from the easing of restrictions, with no racing taking place in Ireland since the Clonmel meeting on March 24.
There are now signs though that sport might be phased back in following the enforced coronavirus lockdown, with some trainers and owners remaining hopeful that the racing action could return later this month.
Varadkar has announced the extension of the lockdown for another two weeks, but there will be some relaxations in the rules. The Taoiseach said outdoor workers will be allowed to return to work from May 18, while some sports activities will also be permitted.
If racing isn't deemed safe to return by that date, it may not return until next month. Phase three of Ireland's sectors and activities plan is reportedly due to take place from June 29.
