Like the majority of race meetings around the world, Churchill Downs has been affected by the coronavirus pandemic and track officials have already moved the Kentucky from May 2 to September 5.

However, there is some better for the US venue after Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear confirmed stables at the track have been given the green light to reopen on May 11.

Racing will be able to resume behind closed doors and details regarding the opening day of Churchill Downs 2020 spring meeting will be communicated in the coming days.

“There will be no fans for racing,” Beshear said in a news release issued by Churchill Downs. “I will tell you this is one of the most detailed plans that we have seen about specific security checks that everybody has to go through and be temperature-checked to masking to having a very limited group that is there.”

When racing does resume, Churchill Downs officials have confirmed that only racetrack employees and Kentucky Commission license holders will be allowed into the venue.
