Grimthorpe pleased with Quadrilateral

manager Teddy Grimthorpe says unbeaten Quadrilateral remains in good shape ahead of her hopeful tilt at the Qipco 1000 Guineas.

The -trained Quadrilateral has been the long-time favourite for the fillies’ this year but the race will not take place as usual in May and instead has been pencilled in for early June, although much depends on if racing can resume then.

Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah, says Quadrilateral has been in good order and was ready to extend his winning run in the 1000 Guineas after impressing in the Fillies’ Mile at in October.

He told Sky Sports Racing: “On the whole the 1000 and 2000 are the last two-year-old trials if you like, but she was good enough to win the Fillies’ Mile, so she isn’t that backwards. She is certainly a strong filly and from that point of view we were looking forward to the 1000 Guineas in May.

“Equally so with all fillies, especially with the summer and everything else, opportunities become fewer and fewer at times and I think to concertina her season it doesn’t necessarily work in her favour.”

Grimthorpe is waiting to see how the racing goes before making further plans for Quadrilateral, who also won twice last year at .

He added: “The real question is where we might have gone had things gone well in the Guineas. Would she be a mile-and-a-half horse or a mile-and-a-quarter horse? From that point of view those things need to be answered earlier rather than later, because then you can plan the campaign.”
