Mitsuru Hashida admits the ‘ultimate aim’ for Deirdre this year is the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, with the Japanese horse already preparing.
The six-year-old – who has collected prize money of over £2million – has been based at Newmarket for a month, having returned from Dubai, and there are high hopes for last season’s Nassau Stakes winner.
Trainer Hashida has been happy with the mare since her return to UK racing HQ and the handler is now looking forward to another top-level European campaign, when the coronavirus pandemic allows.
When asked about plans for Deirdre, Hashida told the Racing Post: “Deirdre has been very consistent as usual. She is ready to move to the next step for her race preparation.
“The ultimate aim this year is the Arc. We are looking forward to having more Group 1 experiences in Europe.”
The trainer also revealed that the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh, due to take place on May 24, is a “serious option for her next run” and Hashida praised those working hard to sustain the racing industry in these difficult times.
