Fabre not setting Earthlight targets

Earthlight trainer Andre Fabre admits he's taking a wait-and-see approach over plans for the rest of the season.

French trainer Fabre was hoping star colt Earthlight would develop further this year, after an outstanding 2019 campaign. The Godolphin-owned horse recorded five wins from five, which included taking the Prix Morny at Deauville before he then sealed victory in the Middle Park Stakes at in September.

However, with all in Europe currently due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Fabre is having to shelve any plans for the season for the three-year-old for now, although he hopes to see him back in action at some point.

The Qipco at Newmarket in early May was thought to be a target this year, but there remains a huge question mark over the big spring and summer meetings as things stand.

Fabre said: “Earthlight is in very good shape, but we can't make any plans. All we can do is keep training the and see what happens. We've seen the racing cancelled in France, then Britain, then Ireland. It's difficult for everybody.

“The grass gallops at Chantilly are closed, but we are able to work on the sand and all-weather gallops to keep the horses fit and well.”

He added: “Who knows what sort of trials there'll be and when the Guineas will be run? I think we have already lost the spring races, if we're being realistic.”
