Piggott discharged from hospital

Renowned jockey Lester Piggott has returned home following a two-week stay in hospital where he was fitted with a pacemaker.

The 11-time British flat racing champion jockey has suffered from heart problems in the past and he was omitted into hospital earlier this month.

However, it has now been confirmed by his daughter that the 83-year-old has been discharged and he will now continue his rehabilitation from his home.

“Dad has left hospital, which is great news, and the doctors have been pleased with how his heart has settled down – these things take time when you're 83,” his daughter, Maureen Haggas, told the Racing Post.

“Needless to say he'll be taking it easy over Christmas and hopefully build his strength back up into the new year.”

Piggott enjoyed a successful career, riding 30 British Classic winners, while he also produced a remarkable return to the sport aged 54 in 1990, marking his comeback with a victory in the $1million Breeders' Cup Mile for iconic Irish trainer Vincent O'Brien just two weeks later.
