Aljazzi won the Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot in style – 12 months after having to settle for second spot behind Qemah.
The Marco Botti-trained five-year-old was expected to face more disappointment this time around as she was second favourite behind Aidan O’Brien’s Hydrangea.
However, after jockey William Buick sat at the back of the pack for the majority of the Group Two race, he moved into open space just over a furlong out and burst through for the win ahead of Tribute Act, while Epsom winner Wilamina was third.
Afterwards, a delighted Botti said: “We’ve been so close so many times, it’s just nice to have one (a Royal Ascot winner) on the board.
“William gave her a great ride and she showed a great turn of foot.”
