Trainer John Gosden says a big discussion is needed before deciding where Calyx will be running next.
Calyx produced a brilliant performance to land the AFT Fluorotec EBF Novice Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday, comfortably beating Octave, trained by Mark Johnston, by five lengths.
Khaadem, who is trained by Charlie Hills, was back in third whilst Brian Meehan’s charge Salam Zayed ended up fourth, just ahead of Chance.
The two-year-old Calyx’s performance has now brought about the possibility of a shot at the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Ascot on June 19 although Gosden has yet to make a decision on where his charge will be going next.
“We’ll have to see how Calyx is before we think about Royal Ascot or anything,” he said. “He’s a nice type of horse who will get seven furlongs and a mile like his father.”
