Frankie Dettori admits he is feeling good about his chances of winning Saturday’s Investec Derby on Hazapour.
The Italian heads to Epsom eyeing a third Derby triumph, having ridden home Authorized and Golden Horn in 2007 and 2015 respectively.
Dettori has been brought in by Dermot Weld to partner his Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial winner due to Pat Smullen’s absence through illness and the 47-year-old galloped with him on Tuesday.
After getting his first look at the three-year-old, the jockey is feeling good about his hopes of more Group 1 glory.
Dettori told At The Races: “I came to ride Hazapour this morning for Mr Weld and it was nice to see Pat Smullen watching the work as well.
“It was pretty much a routine gallop. I didn’t come to press any buttons, I just came to have a feel of the horse and get to know his character.
“I was very pleased with what I saw. He was a very willing partner and he won his Derby trial very well, so it’s all systems go for Saturday.”
