Lee reveals Top Gamble plans

Top Gamble is being lined up for his first experience over Aintree's Grand National fences in the Topham Chase on April 13.

The Kerry Lee-trained 10-year-old will head to Merseyside after a creditable third-placed finish in the Grand Annual at the Cheltenham Festival earlier this month.

Stablemate Gino Trail finished one place ahead of Top gamble at Prestbury Park but will not go up against him at Aintree, with the former lined up for the Red Rum Handicap Chase.

Lee said: “Top Gamble is going for the Topham and, if the ground is right, Gino Trail will go for the Red Rum Handicap Chase. He ran in it last season (finished sixth) and the ground was too quick for him.

“I was very proud of both horses at Cheltenham.

“Top Gamble has schooled very nicely so far. He had one day early in the year when he schooled over those Aintree-style fences and he was exemplary.

“It's something a bit different for him.”
