Cue Card owner Jean Bishop says she’s waiting to speak to trainer Colin Tizzard before deciding if the 12-year-old will be retired.
Cue Card disappointed in Thursday‘s Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham as the nine-time Grade 1 winner was pulled up as he looked completely out of sorts during the race.
It seems likely that the veteran horse will be retired at the end of the season at the latest but Bishop says she has yet to speak to Tizzard over Cue Card’s immediate future amid talk of another run-out this year for the popular chaser.
Bishop said: “I haven’t seen Colin. We came home from Cheltenham on Friday and I live about four and half hours away from Colin, so I haven’t seen or spoken to him.
“I won’t get down this week, so I’ll have to wait to hear from Colin, but it’s not the same talking on the phone as talking face to face.”
She added: “I really don’t know what I think. One minute I think one thing and then another. I’ll have to be guided by what Colin says and I haven’t seen him since we said goodbye on Thursday.”
“Our main concern – as with any of our horses – is about them. The decision will be made about what’s best for him.”
