Trainer Nicky Henderson has revealed his delight after seeing Altior put in a strong showing during a weekend workout in Lambourn.
The eight-year-old has not race competitively this season following surgery in December due to an issue with his breathing.
Altior has steadily been stepped up in training and the weekend?s outing in Lambourne has led Henderson to feel that he is well on course to make a full recovery.
Henderson is now considering a run in the Game Spirit Chase at Newbury on Saturday week as he gears Altior up for the Queen Mother Champion Chas at the Cheltenham Festival.
“He was very, very impressive ? brilliant,? Henderson said.
“He moved sweetly, didn't take a blow and he didn't make any noises.
“I was very pleased. It was absolutely excellent – as good as ever.
“If it was very soft at Newbury, he'd be very unlikely to run in the Game Spirit, but if it was very good, there's a distinct possibility that he will.”
