Trainer Jack Barber has confirmed Ask The Weatherman will drop down in distance for his next run.
The nine-year-old picked up an impressive win at Exeter in the Smith & Williamson Handicap Chase back in November and he was expected to feature prominently in the Welsh Grand National at Chepstow last Saturday.
However, the Mr David Martin & Mr Paul Barber-owned charge struggled to make any real impact in testing Welsh conditions and was eventually pulled up, failing to complete the 3m 5f 110y race.
Barber has now revealed Ask The Weatherman came out of that race with no problems but the gelding will now be dropping down in trip.
“He’s absolutely fine. The ground was very gluey and he just didn’t get the trip on the day,” he said. “It was his first time over three-mile-five and he didn’t get home, so we’ll have a look at something over three miles or three-mile-two maximum for his next run.”
