Trainer Harry Fry has confirmed Neon Wolf, a runner-up in the Neptune Novices’ Hurdle at this year’s Cheltenham Festival, has died.
The six-year-old suffered a fatal injury during a freak accident in his stable, with Fry confirming that it is a major blow to the team to lose a horse of such huge potential.
The Dorset trainer told www.harryfryracing.com: “He had the potential to go right to the top and it is hard to come to terms with the fact that he has gone having suffered a complete laceration of his right hind-limb deep digital flexor tendon.
“It is a dreadful blow to his owners the Masterson family and all of the team here at Seaborough.”
The bay gelding’s narrow defeat to Willoughby Court at the Festival in March turned out to be his final race appearance, and it was also the only time he ever lost a race, as he won on his three other outings, including when he emerged triumphant in the Rossington Main Novices’ Hurdle at Haydock in January.
