Irishcorrespondent trainer Michael Halford expected his charge to perform better at but believes good times are ahead.

The three-year-old stepped up in trip for the Hampton Court Stakes last week but had to settle for fifth as Benbatl took the honours, some way ahead of the Kildare colt.

His outing at Royal was the second big test for the son of Teofilo in his fledgling career after running a credible third in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, Halford taking the decision to see what he could do after early victories at the and this year.

Halford believes Irishcorrespondent is capable of better than he has shown in his last two outings and is therefore positive over his chances of success on the big stage going forward.

“Things just got to him a little bit at the start. He got a little bit worried about things and ran a bit keen,” the trainer told At The Races. “He’s come home sound and I’m sure there’s better days ahead.

“We’ll let him get over that. He didn’t train or race as a two-year-old, so he’s done a lot in a short space of time.

“We’ll give him a chance now and make a plan when we have him right again.”
