Ulysses fresh for Royal Ascot epic

The four-year-old has only been seen once so far this season, seeing off Deauville on his return to action in the Gordon Richards Stakes at in April.

A second run of the year in The Brigadier Gerard Stakes at the same track had been pencilled in but trainer eventually decided against it to make sure he is firing on all cylinders for Royal .

Ulysses, who has won over both 10 and 12 furlongs, is still being aimed at the Price of Wales's Stakes and it appears it is all go at this stage of his preparation for his Royal Ascot debut.

“The Prince of Wales's is definitely the plan and all is well with him at the moment,” said Alan Cooper, manager for the owners, Flaxman Stables.

“Sir Michael has indicated he is happy to stay over 10 furlongs for now, but he can do both if we need him to. We know he stays further, though.

“It was always the plan to go straight to Ascot. The Brigadier Gerard was looked at, but Sir Michael decided it would be better to keep him fresh.”
