O’Brien says Winter is coming for the Coronation Stakes

The in-form trainer has dominated the Classics so far this season, Winter having seen off Rhododendron to win the 1,000 Guineas at three weeks ago before her comprehensive triumph in the Irish equivalent.

Jockey said it had been “very easy” for Winter to claim the Irish 1,000 Guineas and O’Brien is now weighing up where to send the three-year-old next with Royal on the horizon.

“She’s not short of pace. You’d imagine she might get a mile and quarter when she gets a mile that strong here at the Curragh, but she’s a good traveller,” said O’Brien.

“Ryan was very impressed with her. He said she was as easy a Classic winner as you could believe.

“If everything went well, you’d be thinking of the Coronation Stakes [at Royal Ascot] with her, because she is a good strong traveller.

“If everything is well then you have to make your mind up where you go after that. Do you go to over a mile and a quarter [Nassau Stakes], or do you go to the Falmouth and those races?

“The lads will talk about it and see what they want to do.”
