John Gosden has backed Cracksman to build on his recent Epsom outing and push on for a win in next week’s Dante Stakes at York.
The three-year-old is looking to secure Frankel a British Classic winner in his first crop of offspring after Eminent, Dream Castle, Fair Eva and Queen Kindly all failed to pick up a win in their Guineas at Newmarket at the weekend.
And while Cracksman only just edged out Permian in a 10-furlong Derby trial at Epsom in April, Gosden is expecting an improved performance at York.
He said: “The plan is to run him in the Dante Stakes. I am very happy with him and he has come on a lot from Epsom. The form got a nice boost on Saturday, not that our fellow (Khalidi, third) turned up, but that is another matter.
“He has been in great form since the race and he has come on a lot mentally. He learned an awful lot. That was only his second run. It is quite a big ask round Epsom on their second run.”
