Charlie Hills says he is keen to bide his time before making a decision on Dutch Connection’s seasonal reappearance.
The five-year-old impressed with a brilliant win in the Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, a victory that opened up doors to outings in the Prix Maurice de Gheest, the Prix du Moulin and the Breeders’ Cup Mile.
Having been well beaten in the latter two, Hills is keen to stay patient while he finds his form at home, with next month’s Lockinge Stakes at Newbury a possibility.
The Lambourn handler admits he is happy to stay patient with the Godolphin-trained star, especially with a number of races open to him.
Hills said: “We are just taking our time slowly with him as it will be a long season. I don’t think we will do the Breeders’ Cup with him this year. There are plenty of options for him in the autumn.
“If he runs in the Lockinge that will be his first run of the season. He is a horse that never does that well in the winter. We have just got to be patient with him.
“He ran a good race in the bet365 Mile at Sandown last year first time out, but that was a stiff mile. We won’t be starting him off there again.”
