Trainer Ed Walker has confirmed Stormy Antarctic will be given a shot at the Champions Mile at Sha Tin on May 7.
Stormy Antarctic picked up a brilliant victory at Newmarket in the Novae Bloodstock Insurance Craven Stakes in April last year, beating John Gosden‘s Foundation in second by three-and-a-half lengths.
The four-year-old chestnut colt has failed to triumph in the five outings to follow but the performance at Doncaster on Saturday has boosted the optimism within the camp.
Walker’s charge was just caught in the final stretch by Kool Kompany, who won by a short head, and there is real hope of enjoying success when the team travel to Sha Tin.
The trainer has spoken about the display in South Yorkshire and revealed preparations are now underway for Stormy Antarctic’s shot at the Champions Mile next month.
“I’m gutted to see my stable star beaten, but it was very much a prep race for bigger and better things and we’ll stick to our plan and go to Hong Kong, as long as he gets an invite,” Walker was quoted as saying by sportinglife. “We have five weeks to get him ready for that and it will be exciting to see what he can do.”
