Colin Tizzard‘s son and assistant, Joe, has confirmed that both Cue Card and Native River are in fine form ahead of Cheltenham.
Cue Card competed in the race 12 months ago but he fell three out when he looked in a good position to win, before Gordon Elliott‘s Don Cossack eventually powered home.
The 11-year-old show his class when he won the Ascot Chase last month and he will go up against stablemate Native River.
The latter has won the Hennessy Gold Cup, Welsh National and Denman Chase and Joe is excited by their prospects.
He told reporters: “Both Native River and Cue Card schooled on Tuesday. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Cue Card school so well it was like he was on springs. Native River was really good, too. I rode Native River myself this morning and he felt superb.
“There is not much between them. They’ve both had beautiful prep runs and they are going into the Gold Cup in their best form, I’m sure of it. All we need now is a bit of luck and what will be will be.”
