Trainer Nicky Richards says Baywing could feature in the JT McNamara National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival next month.
Baywing landed a sensational victory in the totepool Towton Novices’ Chase at Wetherby earlier this month on just his second start over fences and the brown gelding is now rated at 147.
The camp are now deliberating which meeting the eight-year-old will go to next and there is a strong suggestion the event at Prestbury Park in March could be on the cards.
However, Richards admits that trip will all depend on the ground conditions and he threw out another option if his charge is not suited to the going at Cheltenham.
“We’ll have a look what the going might be like at Cheltenham and he could run in the four-miler, but in the back of my mind I think he could be a better horse than that long term,” he told skysports.com
“If the ground is too quick there then he’ll go to Uttoxeter the Saturday after, not for the Midlands National but for a novice chase worth £30,000.
“I’d be keen to keep him in novice company for now, I’m not sure how he’d cope against those gnarled old handicappers.”
