Colin Tizzard described Cheltenham Gold Cup hope Cue Card‘s display when winning Saturday’s Ascot Chase as “as perfect as you can get”.
Cue Card was sent off 4/9f for the Grade One contest and duly obliged with a comfortable victory, finishing clear of Shantou Flyer in Berkshire.
The win was the ideal preparation for Cheltenham next month and Cue Card will now go up against another of Tizzard‘s stars, Thistlecrack, in the Gold Cup next month.
The trainer was delighted with Cue Card’s Ascot Chase performance and reported no problems from the 11-year-old after the contest.
He said: “Cue Card is absolutely fine this morning. I thought his performance on Saturday was as perfect as you can get.
“On all known form he deserved to win, but that doesn’t mean they will. He travelled and jumped and came away in his own time, so we were delighted.”
