Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up On His Own has been retired after picking up an injury in last week’s outing at Thurles.
Willie Mullins‘ charge made his chasing debut at the Irish track last week and looked in good shape as he finished second behind Foxrock.
However, Mullins jnr has confirmed he returned with an injury and the decision has been taken to retire the 13-year-old.
He said: “On His Own has had to be retired, I’m afraid. He ran well in Thurles, but returned with an injury and we’ve had to call it a day.
“It’s a shame as we were looking forward to having a bit of sport with him in hunter chases. He did win a point-to-point for us a couple of weeks ago.”
On His Own’s was narrowly beaten by Lord Windermere in the 2014 Cheltenham Gold Cup and won nine races overall after first appearing in 2009.
