Buveur D’Air made a winning start over fences with victory in Haydock‘s Read Paddy Brennan At 32Red.com Novices’ Chase on Saturday.
The five-year-old was last seen winning over the larger obstacles at Aintree back in April this year but appears to have made a seamless transition to fences.
Having finished third in last season’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham before winning the Grade One Top Novices’ Hurdle on Merseyside in April, the son of Crillion has now proved his worth over fences with a three-and-a-quarter-length victory over Cloudy Dream.
Chic Name made the running but it was down to the two market principals for the spoils and jockey Aidan Coleman felt it was the perfect beginning to what could be a stunning new chapter to his career.
“He’s obviously got a lot of ability and talent. It was a lovely race to ride in,” he said. “The third horse (Chic Name) isn’t bad and the second horse had a good level of form so it was a very good race to start him off.
“He seemed to enjoy it and I enjoyed it anyway. Hopefully, he can build on it.
“He was straightforward and, from my point of view, it was just an enjoyable experience. I’m very happy with him.”
