Dan Skelton believes Many Clouds could shock the racing world and regain the Grand National at Aintree next year.
Many Clouds, who is trained by Olivier Sherwood, won the prestigious race back in 2015 with an outstanding performance but he could only manage to finish 16th in this year’s renewal.
The nine-year-old brown gelding bounced back to form on Saturday with his first competitive appearance since failing in the National bid, storming to victory in the Betfred Lotto ‘100k Cash Giveaway’ Chase at Aintree.
Skelton is now of the opinion that Many Clouds can now keep this good form going and become the first horse since Red Rum in 1977 to regain the Grand National crown.
He told Racing Post’s Monday Jury: “I really think he could be the first horse since Red Rum to regain the National. He jumped and travelled like a new horse following his wind op.
“He has proven he can perform under a big weight, he loves Aintree and likes a bit of decent ground. It’s a real possibility he can go back and win it again.”
