Champion jockey Jim Crowley was delighted to accept the opportunity to become number one jockey for owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum.
The 30-year-old will replace Paul Hanagan who left the post earlier this month after Shadwell racing opted go in another direction.
Crowley began his career on the Flat before a switch to National, but he is now back on the Flat once again and has landed one of the top jobs in the sport.
Angus Gold, the owner’s racing manager, told At The Races he was pleased to have the Ascot-born jockey as part of the team.
“I spoke to Jim two nights ago and he confirmed he would be happy to do it,” he said. “It’s very exciting news and obviously we’re thrilled to have him on board. He’s worked his way up and proven himself to be a top jockey and he’s done a brilliant job this year.”
And Crowley felt the news just added to what has already been an excellent year.
“I’m very much looking forward to it. I’m chuffed to pieces,” he said. “On the back of such a good year, this time of year everyone is trying to get sorted for next season but it was nice to get the offer.”
