Unowhatimeanharry is set to return at Wetherby at the end of the month as Harry Fry eyes another good season for his charge.
The eight-year-old will be donning the colours of JP McManus this season and will hope to pick up where he left off last term after five successes culminating with a victory in the Grade One Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
Fry says the Grade Two West Yorkshire Hurdle at Wetherby on October 29 is likely to be where he makes his seasonal reappearance, with a tilt at the World Hurdle at Cheltenham a long-term aim.
“We did his wind and he thrived last season,” Fry told the Racing Post. “He went from 123 to being rated 152 when he ran in the Albert Bartlett, but then he got reassessed and dropped to 149. I just wish every horse who won a race got dropped 3lb, let alone a Grade 1 at Cheltenham.
“He’s starting at a much higher level now, but he’s won from 2m4f-3m so he’s versatile and we know he’s a real trier and goes in testing conditions. We’re not thinking about fences at the moment – we’re going to remain in staying hurdles and see how far he can go.”
Fry added: “The plan is to start at Wetherby on October 29 in the Grade 2 West Yorkshire Hurdle. If we decide he’d be more competitive going down the chasing route then I’d have no hesitation, but for the time being staying hurdles are the focus.”
