Trainer Nicky Henderson has explained why he decided to err on the side of caution after withdrawing My Tent Or Yours from Kempton.
The former Champion Hurdle runner up was expected to feature in the Better Odds With Betfair Exchange Hurdle on Sunday however there was a late withdrawal for the nine-year-old.
With Henderson’s Hargam winning the race at Kempton, the experienced Handler felt the ground was just too quick for My Tent Or Yours and did not want to take any chances that could possibly rule the runner out of the Cheltenham Festival.
He told Racing UK: “I got cold feet at the end of the day. It’s a long time until March and at his age we can’t get it wrong again. That would be the end of his career. It would be all over.
“I think we have to look at Haydock and the Fighting Fifth, maybe come back here for the Christmas Hurdle.
“Things have gone well which is why we are ready at this stage, but we couldn’t do it today.”
